How To Tell Your Story With Jewellery

We’re always telling stories about ourselves, and never is that more true than when it comes to what we wear. Every outfit we put together is a narrative of its own, and it speaks volumes about our preferences, values, and experiences. But what happens if you start to feel like your style stories are becoming a little one-note?

Perhaps your style no longer feels like a true representation, or maybe there aren’t enough plot twists in your wardrobe as it stands? If this sounds familiar, then it may be time to introduce some jewellery.

If style is plot, then jewellery is the beautiful language that pulls everything together. These pieces can bring life to your outfits all over again, and they can help you to feel and look better than you have in years. The question is, how exactly do you tell a story with the jewellery you choose?

1 - Choose the Right Materials

The vast majority of jewellery materials have a deeply symbolic meaning, making this a great place to start when it comes to choosing which pieces will work with your wardrobe and your personality. Your chosen materials are also a great way to start telling your style story in a new way.

Some common material meanings you may want to consider include:

  • Diamonds: Diamonds like those provided by Rare Carat online diamond seller represent themes including eternal love, faithfulness, and strength, and could represent your love for your family, or your resilience during difficult times.

  • Amethyst: Amethyst is linked to clarity and peace, making amethyst jewellery an excellent option to represent a gentle nature, or a spiritual awakening of some sort.

  • Silver: Silver represents travel and adventure, meaning that silver jewellery could tell of your travels, or your keen, adventurous spirit.

2 - Stack Your Jewellery in Meaningful Ways

Stacking or layering jewellery can also be a great way to ensure that each piece tells a story. For instance, author Jacqueline Wilson famously buys a new ring for every book she completes, and wears them together to represent her life’s work.

You could do something similar to represent your career achievements. Or, perhaps you could buy a piece of jewellery to represent each of your children? Equally, you could buy a different bracelet for each year of your marriage, and wear them together to represent your ongoing commitment.

3 - Tell It Clearly With Engravings

Most of the time, the story you tell with your jewellery will be hidden under the surface, but that doesn’t always need to be the case. Engravings provide a great way to literally tell the world about your story and values.

Engravings can also cover a wide range of interests depending on what matters the most to you. For instance, you could get a bracelet engraved with the initials and birthdays of each of your children. Or, you may prefer a necklace that’s engraved with a favourite quote or novel extract that speaks volumes.

Jewellery can be a great way to share your personal story. Simply find your style-based narrative voice using these tips.
