Best Christmas Decorating Ideas to Style Cosy Homes this Holiday
/Disclosure: AD, this is a sponsored post, however all opinions are 100% my own.
As the weather gets colder and November is behind us, who isn't thinking about preparing your home for Christmas or the winter holiday season?
From your front door and entrance hall to your main living room or dining area, there are so many lovely ideas to bring the holiday spirit to your home.
Whether you want to hunker down calmly in a cosy, book nook, or entertain friends and family. Decorating your home for the Christmas season is the perfect way to add some good cheer after a tough few months.
There are lots of different styles which work well for the festive seasons so if you prefer the style of log cabin homes, a winter wonderland, the rustic look or bright reds, anything goes as long as it makes you happy! In your house it's your rules!
With that in mind we've picked some of our favourite things, big and small plus some fun accessories so you can decorate your home depending on your budget and level of enthusiasm for this time of year.
1. Christmas Wreath
The first thing people notice when they visit your home is your beautiful front door! So the best Christmas ornaments to have in your entrance way are a lovely wreath with pine cones, fresh greenery and holly berries. There are so many different colours to choose from depending on your 'Christmas theme' plus you can add natural materials, rustic accents, bells and burlap ribbon.
We love this rustic effect decorative wreath with shining baubles, faux berries and dried natural pinecones. It comes with a hanging loop for easy outdoor holiday decor and has a little wow factor. What better way to welcome people into your home over the festive period.
2. Lighting and aroma
A great way to create atmosphere is with warm, low-level lighting and wonderful aromas. We discovered this Leaf Aroma Touch Lamp at Cotton Traders and it's been mentioned by visitors so many times already!
I've never owned one of these before, but I am completely converted. It can be used with essential oils or wax melts. There is a dimmer switch to adjust brightness on cosy evenings. The popular design style of silver mixed with nature is fitting for wintery nights in.
Adding your favourite essential oils depending on your mood makes it versitile. The lamp also creates beautiful shapes around the room and can be used without fragrance if you prefer.
3. Cheery Cushions
Is it really Christmas if you haven't succombed to a festive cushion! We have a few penguin fans in the family so the perfect place for this, is snugged up with my daughter for a merry movie night.
Changing your cushions is a great idea and an easy way to update your home with the seasons, without the extra cost of decorating. It's a quick option for showing the change in mood and weather and sustainable as they can be packed away for next year.
This one is great for the whole winter not just the holidays. It's the perfect accessory and would make lovely Christmas gifts as well.
4. Best Christmas Bedding
When your guests sink into their beds at the end of a happy, bustling day, they should feel well looked after. At this time of year bedding needs to be temptingly soft, which means you need brush cotton duvet sets! This is our favourite; festive red tartan with sweet little robins on the reverse. Made with pure cotton and in sizes up to superking. Take a look at the selection here.
5. Cosy living area
If you're hoping to create the perfect holiday retreat, adding a cosy armchair to your guest room or a cute corner of the house works wonders. You could choose a small dining chair in luxiourious fabric if you have a small space for a book nook. Or use one of these beautiful curved armchairs from Very UK. We think the Lulu Accent chair is where we'd like to hang out with a mince pie! Hopefully you can nab this spot and hide from the washing up! Available in navy, pink and grey, this velvet armchair would make a statement in any room. Order yours here.
6. Glorious Glassware
Once your guests are settled in their comfy chairs, they will need a stunning glass for their Christmas tipples. Dibor as usual has some striking options this year and being a bit of a nature lover these lavender and green leaf design glasses caught my eye.
There are four dishwasher safe, short, glass tumblers with an embossed lavender and leaf design in green and purple. Lovely hues for the Christmas period.
The unique botanical designs are perfect for the holiday season but would also look splendid next year on a spring/summer table.
7. Keeping great rooms warm
We're all wondering how to keep ourselves physically warm this winter, as well as having a cosy looking home. We have one of these electric stove heaters in an original log burner style. You can find modern designs as well but these ones do look like a proper fire.
You can create a warm, homely setting for your living room or as we use it - for me and the cat in our office! The black cast iron design and realistic LED log flame effect create a visual feature for your room. This model from Very UK has an adjustable thermostat and brightness, plus a flame dimmer. There is also a safety thermal cut-off device providing peace of mind. See a selection here.
8. Natural elements for the Christmas Holidays
Welcome the season with plants! Adding a little green update to your home creates plenty of holiday cheer. There's nothing like some pretty house plants to give a room a lift.
We've just bought some poinsetta from Ikea. I especially love that they have the variety with warm white petals as well as the red.
Be aware these plants are sensitive to dry surroundings so small amounts of watering will help while we're all huddled inside with the heating on.
Group pots into groups of three for the best displays. Grab yours here.
9. Dining Table Decor
The dining room is the perfect backdrop for Christmas gatherings. It becomes an essential room or space during this festive period.
Be inspired to show off your own style this December, be it with rustic decor, natural berries and the perfect table runner. Or maybe a brighter, less Instagramable but nostalgic Christmas theme which highlights the character of your family.
Party Pieces run by Carole Middleton always have wonderful collections which help you visualise your table. It can be hard to see how to bring all the elements together. They are super at providing everything you need to make the season extra special. Check out Carole's Christmas Picks here.
10. Outdoor christmas decorations
If you have a front porch or garden, big or small there is always a way to add some white lights and excitement ready for Santa on Christmas Eve!
From candy canes to snowflakes, Cotton Traders have got the holiday lights sorted for you this year. You just need to choose which suit you best!
My children love these Snowflake Stake Lights, illuminating the path. It's the perfect time of year to enjoy a little warm light and fun. Your guests will also know they are welcome and are about to have a wonderful evening.
I hope these tips have given you plenty of inspiration for making your home cosy for Christmas. It's the first year we've all been able to see all our families, visit attractions and worry a bit less. There's a lot of excitement in the air. We hope you enjoy it too.
