Must-Do Activities In Tuscany

From the 14th to the 17th century, Tuscany was the cradle of the Renaissance movement, a time of huge academic and artistic growth that spread throughout the world. Today, Tuscany is a stunning location filled with lush Gardens,  expansive vineyards,  and beautiful cities and towns, popular with Italians and international visitors alike.

Particularly well-known for its delicious wines,  as well as its tasty food, there is plenty to do in this central region. You can even find the best activities, the ones you must-do if you find yourself in the area, discussed below.

Truffle hunt

Ideal for both the gourmets and the nature lovers, truffle hunting can be a fun and educational activity. Available in a range of rural locations, including San Miniato, truffle hunts usually include heading out into the forest with a professional trufflehunter and the dog.

In fact, it's the dog that is most important here as they are extensively trained to sniff out incredibly elusive truffles, vastly increasing your chances of finding one. Oh, and if you are lucky enough to discover a truffle or two,  you may even be asked back to the travel hunter's home to sample dishes seasoned with your prize.

Eat some delicious food

Tuscany is well known for its cucina povera, which prizes simple seasonal food above all else. Although don’t be mistaken, just because this food is simple doesn't mean it's not absolutely delicious and moreish.

The good news is that there is a wealth of restaurants to try in both the cities and villages. Yet, true foodies will want to pick from the many Tuscan wine and food experiences that are on offer in the region. Such experiences guarantee you get to visit the most interesting locations such as castles, mills and even pasta factories. Also, by choosing a tour, you can make sure that you get the very best experts to guide you through your experience from start to finish.

Tour a cathedral

There are thousands of stunning churches throughout Tuscany, but if it's grandeur that you are looking for, you must pay a visit to Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore a visit. Admission prices are incredibly low and allow you to view the stunning frescos and domes inside, as well as the opulent marble that lines the outside of this 13th-century marvel. You can even climb the 463 steps to the cupola, where you will get breathtaking views across Florence.

Take a dip

Last of all, if you find yourself in beautiful Tuscany, then it's well worth visiting the wonderful Bagni San Filippo and taking a dip. They are natural thermal springs, formed naturally from Calcium carbonate, and the best thing is that it's completely free.

It's worth noting that you will need to be prepared with water shoes, as many of the pools are high up and can get slippery because of the water. You’ll also need to pack towels with you as the springs are located in the forest and there are no changing facilities. Also, because the water comes from a natural spring, it does have a sulphur smell.  Although this is a small price to pay for such a stunning and relaxing activity.
