If you’re planning to have a baby or if you’re already trying you will undoubtedly want to do everything you can to give yourself the best chance of success. We’ve gather some advice from a fertility clinic in London to provide you with a pre-pregnancy guide on how to get your body into optimal shape for a healthy pregnancy.

Through bodily and wardrobe changes like wearing maternity leggings and changes to your schedule, to getting your home ready and enjoying it while you can; this post will be taking you through the
last month of pregnancy and how to prepare your body.

    Birth control

Firstly, you need to consider which sort of birth control you’re using. If you rely on barrier methods such as condoms, then you can continue to use these right up until the day you start trying. The same applies to the copper coil as this type of IUD does not disrupt normal menstrual function. Some methods of birth control will need to be halted earlier.

People using the contraceptive pill may find that it takes around 2-3 months before their fertility returns to normal. It may take even longer if you have an implant, which can affect your chances of getting pregnant for 3-8 months after removal.

    Cut out toxins

Your next step should be to focus on your lifestyle. Stopping smoking and curbing any drinking will give you a greater chance of conception and lower the risk of miscarriage. You may also want to limit caffeine too as this can also make it more difficult to conceive.

    Look after your mind

Managing stress is another important factor to consider, as stress affects cortisol levels which can affect ovulation and decrease libido. Making time for meditation or yoga can have a notable impact on your stress levels.

    Eat the rainbow

Eating a healthy, balanced diet will ensure your body has all the nutrients it needs to help grow your baby. You can boost levels of essential nutrients by taking a specially formulated prenatal multivitamin. Look for one that contains at least 400 micrograms of folic acid as this enables your body to produce healthy new cells, making it a staple for those looking to conceive.

It can be an intense time preparing for a baby or to conceive. Try and enjoy this time and don’t fixate solely on this. Having a happy, balanced attitude, though tough to achieve at times, is good for you and your partner’s physical and mental health, and ultimately for your baby as well.
