5 Reasons you should change broadband provider and why it's easier than you think

When thinking about your internet service provider most of us are guilty of signing up to one company when we first arrived in a new home and never challenging this again.

Are we still paying the most competitive rate? Is our broadband download speed still one of the best? Most of us will have no idea.

Do you use the internet on the move? When travelling for your job? Perhaps satellite wifi for truckers is a lifeline when you’re on the road, for instance. Or is the internet something to use when in and out of airports?

The thought of changing often feels like too much bother and possibly for not much reward.

However, this is not true at all and the people who save money compare broadband providers regularly and are open to switching services.

Here are 5 reasons you should change your internet broadband provider and why it's easier than you think.

1. Loyalty doesn’t equal benefits

Traditionally being a long time customer of one provider would give you loyalty benefits. This doesn’t really happen anymore and actually those who stick with the same provider are more likely to be paying a higher amount for their service. This is called the ‘loyalty penalty’ and is well known as a downside of sticking with the same firm.

Being more aware when you see new deals and thinking openly about them will make sure you get a decent price for your broadband.

If you really don’t want to change you can try bargaining with your broadband provider. Let them know you would like to leave. Often this can bring up new offers you wouldn’t normally have been exposed to.

2. Switching doesn’t mean slowing down

A major concern with switching services is having a reduced speed on offer. However, most internet service providers use similar systems to determine the speed and these will be more affected by where you live than a particular provider.

The other benefit of changing is that other companies might offer a range of speed options and you can choose to improve on your old service. Sometimes these even end up being cheaper depending on the type of broadband packages on offer.

3. There are always better broadband deals

It can seem a bit daunting trying to find a new better deal. However, once you are past the introductory period on your current plan, new broadband internet service providers offer money-saving deals to all new customers.

This means there is always a great broadband deal out there to be found. You just have to be prepared to put in a small amount of effort to check them.

4. Email should not be a deal-breaker

Many people don’t want to leave their current broadband firm as they have an email address with their package. However, some companies do let you keep your email as a standalone service.

It’s also worth considering having a free email address so you don’t have this issue every time you move home or switch provider.

5. It’s too much hassle

If you think leaving your broadband provider service provider is just too much work, well actually it’s not bad at all.

You need to check your termination details with your current package.

Contact your new provider and ask to be a new customer. In many cases, they will then handle the whole transfer for you.

In some circumstances, you will have to also notify your old provider that you are cancelling the service.

So as you can see saving money and staying online is quite easy. Now you know this stay savvy and lookout for the best broadband deals.
