5 of the Best Places to Visit as a Pregnant Traveller

It’s more difficult to plan a holiday when you’re pregnant. There are more restrictions than normal now you’re carrying a growing baby, plus your hormones will be all over the place.

However, there’s no need to worry if you want to take a holiday before your little one arrives. We’ve put together a list of five of the best places to visit as a pregnant traveller, so you can get some inspiration and start planning your trip today.

1. The Cotswolds, UK

For stunning views of the countryside and all the peace and quiet you could possibly want, there’s no place quite like the Cotswolds.

Indulge in leisurely walks and some gentle sightseeing, or stay cosied up in your accommodation the entire time you’re away, enjoying fresh, local food and relaxing in front of a roaring fire. Choose a hotel with a spa and you’ll be able to take advantage of all the treatments they have to offer — look out for prenatal massages and foot rubs.

2. The Algarve, Portugal

The Algarve is renowned for its beautiful, sandy beaches, so it’s the perfect destination for any expectant mother who wants to spend some time by the coast. The weather is warm but not unbearable hot, so you’ll be able to make the most of the sunshine without feeling like you’re going to melt.

There are plenty of beaches to choose from, from quiet stretches of sand with lots of caves and inlets to explore, to busier resorts with all the amenities you could possibly need. It’s worth choosing a resort which is close to the airport in Faro if you don’t want to travel too far.

3. Marrakech, Morocco

Is discovering a different culture your favourite thing about travelling? Try a trip to Marrakech.

Take a walking tour around the medina, browse the museums and galleries, and visit the tombs and gardens. If there’s room in your suitcase you could even barter for souvenirs at the souks (check out this guide to haggling and you’ll bag yourself a bargain).

And don’t worry if you’d prefer to take it easy. Café culture is huge in Marrakech, so you can sit outside with a drink and watch the world go by. It’s a simple way to get some winter sun.

4. Cornwall, UK

There’s something about the fresh sea air that lifts everyone’s spirits and it doesn’t get better than Cornwall.

In fact, sea air accelerates our ability to absorb oxygen, which gives us more energy but also helps us to relax. This is just one of the reasons why coastal breaks made Holidaysafe’s list of the best trips for pregnant women.

As well as its picturesque coastline, Cornwall has historic houses, castles and gardens to discover, and the famous Eden Project, the largest greenhouses in the world. And let’s not forget the famous cream teas, complete with homemade scones and lashings of jam and cream.

5. Santorini, Greece

Sit back and prepare yourself for a slower pace of life in Santorini. This Greek island is high on many people’s must-travel lists and for very good reason. Expect warm weather, blue skies, pristine white beaches and those instantly recognisable white buildings.

You’ll have fun making your way around the charming cobbled streets, basking in the sun and receiving well wishes — people in Greece tend to treat expectant mothers especially kindly.

So, what are you waiting for? Make the most of the time you have left to relax before your baby arrives and book your trip today.
